HLC Update on Year 7 Open Evening

From HLC:

Following information sent out by Telford and Wrekin council, we have received a number of phone calls from Year 6 parents to request the start time for our Open Evening which was due to be on the 29th September.

As with many schools across Telford and Wrekin, we have cancelled this face to face event and will be delivering a Virtual Open evening via the school website. Y6 parents can keep up to date with the launch date for this Virtual Open Evening via our school website.

Reading is Magic Festival has begun!

‘Reading is Magic Festival’, a unique national and international platform to celebrate and promote the value of reading and books has begun!

Follow the link below to take a look at some of the fantastic, free, online events that you and your children can take part in.

Programme of Events

Spelling Homework

Don’t forget that weekly spellings are available on the year group class spelling pages. The children will now be bringing their spellings home on a Friday in their reading record to copy out at home ready to take their reading record back to school on a Monday.

Accelerated Reader ZPD

If your child is on Accelerated Reader, they should be bringing home their new AR book this weekend. This book will show the ZPD number that the children will be starting at based on the results of their STAR Reading Test which they have completed this week.

Reading Ideas

The children will be keeping their reading book in school all week and bringing their book home on a Friday in order to read to the adults at home. They will  be encouraged to read other books/materials at home throughout the week as well.

The Peters Books website still has a suggested list of reading books categorised by year groups and a set of downloadable activities for children to complete based on different books.

The National Oak Academy is currently updating its pages and will have various reading activities for the children to do.

Have a look at the links below.

Welcome back Year 6!

Good morning Year 6!

We are very much looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and we can’t wait to have you back in school. We hope that you have had a lovely summer break.

Here are a few things that you will need to know on your return:

  • Lockers will not be used – only bring into school your lunchbox, coat and water bottle.
  • We will be washing our hands regularly throughout the day.
  • Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday – please come to school in your PE kit on these days.
  • Reading books will be sent home every Friday so that you can read over the weekend and then these will need to be brought back into school on Monday where they will stay for the week. We will be putting up another post about what you can read at home during the week days.
  • Homework (maths, SPAG and spellings) will be sent home every Friday and it needs to be returned by the following Friday.
  • Your first homework will be given on Friday 11th September.

See you all tomorrow 🙂
