End of half term message

Thank you again for all your support this half term. The children have really enjoyed their topic and are now facing their final half term before Year 1. Their resilience and attitude to learning continues to impress us and we hope you all have a wonderful half term.

Please could we ask you all to check bags just in case a football trophy has accidently been picked up. If it is found, please pass it on to one of the staff.

Reminders:

  • On the first week back, Base 1 will have PE and Base 2 will have forest school.
  • Forest School: If the weather is nice, fingers crossed, the children will just need outdoor clothes, trainers, a sun hat and please apply sun cream before school.
  • Homework projects due by 9th June. Further details can also be found on the website.

Author Visit

Today, we were visited by Sarah Griffiths, a local author, who read her new book to the children. They were captivated by her story and beautiful illustrations. The children behaved very well and we were very proud of their listening.

Summer Fayre – Change of date

We have recently been informed that Charlton will be holding the Charltonbury Festival on 7th July, which was the same date as our planned Summer Fayre.  As some of our children will have opportunity to perform at Charltonbury, we have changed the date of our Summer Fayre to Friday 30th June, 3.30pm – 5pm.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

EYFS Summer Homework Project

Summer Homework Project

Next half term, our topic is called ‘Journeys’. The children will be read a variety of books where the characters set off on their own journey. In particular, the children will read Whatever Next by Mae Jemison. This story is about Baby Bear who finds a rocket, makes friends with an owl, and has a picnic on the moon!

In preparation for this, we would like the children to create their own rocket! We encourage you to use lots or recyclable materials e.g., toilet rolls, cardboard boxes and also to paint your final creation to take it to the next level!

Please can your rocket/picture of your child holding the rocket be brought to school by Friday 9Th June.

Many thanks,

The EYFS Team

NSPCC Parent and Carer safety guides

Ways in which you can support your child are to:
Practise reading different individual sounds your child finds difficult –  sounds your child needs to learn have been given to you at parents evening.
Support your child to blend the sounds to read the word e.g. m-a-t = mat
When your child is confident reading aloud, encourage them to read in their head ‘Fred in their head’.

Please ensure your child’s reading book and reading diary stay in your child’s plastic folder which comes to school every day so your child can read with an adult in school. We aim to listen to your child at least once a week.

Books will only be updated when your child can confidently read the words fluently.

Maths
This week, we are learning to count on (numbers 1-20).

Challenge to complete at home:

Play a board game and count on the correct number of steps after rolling the dice.

You may wish to print this or if you do not have a printer or board games please come and speak to us so we can print one out for you.

EYFS Forest School/PE/Coronation Day

Please can children come to school in their trainers so they can still take part in PE and forest school (they can of course dress in red, white and blue to take part with the whole school). Can Base 2 please bring their wellies in a plastic bag just incase we need to change into them because of the weather as we intend to make crowns decorated with leaves!

Summer 1 – Week 2 – EYFS Weekly Update

PE
Base 2 practised travelling in different ways with beanbags. We jumped forwards, backwards and side to side. We then practised balancing beanbags on different parts of our body.

Forest School

The children are continuing to expand their understanding of Spring, using a range of vocabulary, and enjoyed their Spring walk in the beautiful sunshine. We compared the differences between the walk we took 4 weeks ago and the walk we took today. The children were delighted to see much more growth and were able to tick many more signs of Spring on their tick sheet.
