Headteacher’s message

I hope you had a lovely half term break, it was nice to finally see some sunshine over the weekend.  I sent out the sun safety/summer guidelines this week, so please do talk to your children about how to apply their own sun cream if you wish to send some in to school for them to put on at lunchtime.  Please ensure that all summer belongings – sun cream, hats, sunglasses have names on – as we do get a lot of lost property this time of year.

This week is National Volunteers’ Week – a time to celebrate the contribution of the individuals and organisations in the UK who volunteer to help others.

We couldn’t miss the opportunity to join the celebration and say thank you to you all of our parent/family volunteers.  We would not be able to take the children out on so many visits without your help and support, and our children love sharing their reading skills with you.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, from September, to help with FAWS events or on school visits then please contact the office to find out about the safer recruitment checks we need to complete.  It would be great if we could increase the number of parent volunteers to help with school visits next academic year.

Well done to everyone who has received a Headteacher award this week:

Forest School

Today Year 1 enjoyed learning all about different castles from around the UK in our Forest School session. We will be continuing this every Thursday for the rest of term. As the weather is improving, children do not need their full forest school clothing, but could they please wear leggings, trousers or joggers every Thursday (to protect their legs from nettles) and make sure they bring a coat in case of rain.

Hook into a Book

Year 2’s Hook into a Book – 05/06/2024

This afternoon, Year 2 were greeted with some Caribbean clues. They used their detective skills to work out what this term’s Love to Read book would be and they made some brilliant predictions. They are all excited to read Gregory Cool and see how each of the clues fits into the story.

Year 2’s Trip to Apley Woods – 05/06/2024

Year 2 had a wonderful morning at Apley Woods. We looked at the human and physical geographical features of the woods as part of our Near and Far Geography topic. We also looked at the historic castle and mansion sites where the Charlton family used to live and discussed how these sites have changed over time.

Thank you to all the parent helpers and staff who supported us with this trip, it is very much appreciated.

Base 4’s Family DEAR Time – 04/06/2024

Base 4 really enjoyed their family DEAR time session this afternoon. A big thank you to everyone who came.
