Headteacher’s Message (15.03.2024)

What an amazing week!  Starting with a fabulous World Book Day, celebrating books and reading, with author Sarah Griffiths, ending with a range of activities for comic relief which the children took part in very enthusiastically!  Thank you to Mrs Williams for arranging our World Book day activities, the staff for taking part, thanks to Mr Mountford for organising our Red Nose Day activities and to all of our families who have supported us with these events this week. A big thanks to everyone who attended parent consultations this week and for the positive feedback we have received. If you weren’t able to attend parent consultations this week, please contact school to arrange a phone call with the teacher.

I want to say another well done to the Year 5 children who were in London last week.  We received so many positive comments about their behaviour and manners from members of the public in the theatre and the hotel. A huge thank you to the staff who took them, it was a pleasure to enjoy the experience with them.

World Book Day in Base 4 – 11/03/24

Base 4 had a brilliant time sharing their favourite books with Year 4 children and meeting local author, Sarah Griffiths, to hear one of her stories. Their costumes were fantastic and it was clear to see how much they all love to read!

World Book Day 11-03-24

Thank you to everyone for a fantastic World Book Day on Monday. We had amazing costumes from both children and staff; a great visit from local author, Sarah Griffiths, and a story share with older children reading the younger children’s favourite stories to them.

World Book Day 11-03-24

Base 14 had a great day celebrating World Book Day. They came to school in fantastic costumes and enjoyed guessing which characters they had all come as.

World Book Day

On Monday, Apley Wood celebrated World Book Day in school. The children came dressed as a book character or author, and they brought a book to share with them.

We had a fantastic morning listening to local author Sarah Griffiths’ new book ‘Tom’s Gift’. In the afternoon, we had a lovely dear time session, sharing our stories with children in Reception and Year 1.

Look at the fantastic outfits Base 11 came in!

Apley Wood World book day. 11.03.24

We dressed up as a character from our favourite book and shared the books with other children from other classes.

Sarah Griffiths came into school to share her newest book ‘Tom’s Gift.’

Base 13 – World Book Day – 11.03.24

We have had a great time so far on World Book Day in Base 13. We really enjoyed the author visit and Mrs Stinson read one of her favourite books from her childhood, “Happy Mouseday”.

We’ve then written our own book reviews of some of our favourite books.

Well done Base 13!

Mayan Artwork

Mayan Artwork

Over the past few weeks Year 6 have been busy out in Forest School being inspired by nature.

After studying Central and South America in Geography and continuing to look at the Ancient Mayans in History the Year 6’s have been thinking of how they could create a textile piece inspired by the Mayan period of time. This has included creating dyes to colour their fabric and using charcoal to draw out their patterns.

This has gone hand in hand with the natural environment and what patterns they have been able to find from the natural worlds, as the Mayans would have done for their own textiles.

Story Time- 11.3.24

At the end of World Book Day, we enjoyed a whole school story time. It was lovely to watch Base 9 and Base 6 sharing some of their favourite stories with one another!

Base 4’s Computing – 12/03/2024

Base 4 enjoyed using the Beebots, iPads and laptops to create their own algorithms. They worked well in their teams to test and debug their own programs. Super problem solving, Base 4!
