Headteacher’s Message (01.03.2024)

A huge well done to Year 6 this week.  Those in Arthog have demonstrated resilience and maturity in facing new experiences and challenges and those in school have also demonstrated amazing team work and collaboration.

Our attached advisor has been in school again this week, this time conducting a music deep dive with Mrs Hindle.  She was very impressed with the strong music curriculum that we have now developed in school and our children were fantastic in demonstrating their skills in lessons and talking to her with such enthusiasm about music in school. We are very pleased with how our music offer is widening and developing and have high ambitions for music education at Apley Wood Primary in the future.

Congratulations to everyone who has received a Headteacher Award this week:

Design and Technology- Potatoes

This week Year 4 have been introduced with their new DT topic… potatoes.

The children discussed their prior knowledge about how potatoes are grown and what they are used for. Over the next couple of weeks, the children will be exploring potato recipes and having a go at cooking some cheesy mash and potato chips. Yum!

Forest Fossils

Forest School Fossils

Year 6 were back out in Forest school for a small part of the morning creating some fossils using shells and other natural materials from around the forest school area.

They had a morning looking at evolution, looking at where different animals started from and then created what they predict they may evolve into in the future!

Darwin Day

Forest School Science

Some of our Y6’s made use of the good weather today and got out into Forest School to put Charles Darwin’s theory into practise. After starting the morning off doing research into the local, famous scientist, our Year 6 children went out to see how survival of the fittest and natural selection looked in a rather tasty way…

Darwin Day 2

Darwin Geography

Our year 6’s this morning continued their learning about Charles Darwin and the HMS Beagle. They began the morning plotting his route on a world map, and followed this up by writing letters home describing their journey, and finally decorating bottles that their letters could be stored in.

Formula 1 in school! – 26.02.24

On Monday, Year 5 took part in a STEM workshop where they got to design, build and race miniature F1 cars! They had the best time in their groups with assigned roles such as: Team Leader, Manufacturing Engineer, Graphic Designer, Design Engineer! There are definitely some budding engineers at Apley!

Year 5 visit Oz!

Last half term, Year 5 walked up to Charlton to watch their performance of The Wizard of Oz! They all thought it was amazing and were great ambassadors for Apley!

Car Parking (1st March 2024)

The school car park is for staff, visitors and blue badge holders only.  Parents and Carers should not be parking on site for the normal school day drop off and collection without the blue badge.  If you are parking in a disabled bay, then please ensure your blue badge is on show when you leave the car.

When dropping off for breakfast club and collecting from after school clubs, please ensure you use the one way system on the car park and avoid parking in the disabled bays.  The entrance to the car park is quite narrow and there have been some near misses lately.  We want to ensure that our staff and children can get into school safely.

Thank you for your continued support.
