Headteacher’s message

Well done to our Year 2 children who have been brilliant this week, as they have taken their sats tests. Thanks to all the staff who have supported them to ensure this has been a positive experience for our children and thanks to Mrs Benton for running forest school for Y2 this week.

It has been lovely to see author, Sarah Griffiths, back in school this week.  She shared her story The Lost Voices and the children (and staff!) loved it.

Thank you to everyone who completed our parents questionnaire, the many positive comments have been feedback to staff.  It was lovely to see that so many of our parents recognise the high quality of teaching, and appreciate that our staff do go above and beyond to offer the wide range of extra curricular activities.  A small number of parents have raised some concerns and queries and we do take these seriously.  As a result of this, we will be holding a full SEND review with our attached advisor in June and parents of SEND pupils will have opportunity to share their views and feedback about our SEND provision.  I have also passed on the comments regarding school lunches to the T&W  catering team and they have suggested that they offer parents an opportunity for a tasting session.  I will let you know when a date has been confirmed for this.  Our forest school provision on site is developing, thanks to the hard work of Mr Yardley and Mrs Benton,  and we aim to try to extend the offer over the next academic year.  We are planning on holding our annual Fireworks display this year, unfortunately, our provider was unable to provide an appropriate date last November, due to still catching up on covid cancellations from the previous years. We are excited to be able to offer more community events again, including our Summer Fayre in June.

We have had some lovely news from Mr Yardley and I am sure you will all join me in congratulating him and his wife on the arrival of their new baby girl recently.  We are looking forward to meeting her soon.

Well done to everyone who has received a Headteacher’s Award this week:

Kids for a £1 activities back for May half term

With the brighter, warmer weather hopefully on the way families wanting to make the most of the outdoors can hire a bike and helmet for just £1 from Telford Bike Hub in Telford Town Park. Adventure golf and disc golf are all back open for the season too.

Councillor Shaun Davies (Lab) Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council said: “We are in a cost of living crisis where our residents are struggling with the basics like paying for gas, electricity and their weekly food shopping without having to fund expensive school holiday activities. That’s why we will continue to offer our one-pound holiday sessions both this half term and with a bumper edition on the way for the six weeks holiday. Back in February over 1,000 residents took part so we know they are making a huge difference too.”

Many of these activities are also part of the council’s 10 by 10 programme which offers all children ten activities they should try before they are ten years old.

Residents will need a Telford Loyalty Card to book sessions. Activities can be booked 7 days in advance (with the exception of swimming) to help ensure you get your guaranteed slots.

Wroxeter

What a lovely day Year 3 have had in the sunshine at Wroxeter. We explored the Roman ruins, learned all about the history of the city and even spoke some Latin!
We have realised that although life today is very different to the Roman times, they had lots of the same things that we still do now.

Summer Fayre – Change of date

We have recently been informed that Charlton will be holding the Charltonbury Festival on 7th July, which was the same date as our planned Summer Fayre.  As some of our children will have opportunity to perform at Charltonbury, we have changed the date of our Summer Fayre to Friday 30th June, 3.30pm – 5pm.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Nature drawing

Year 3 had a lovely afternoon outside. We are learning all about Gaudi and his mosaics, which were inspired by nature. We had a go at designing our own mosaics using the things we could see around us, ready to make our own!

Science in base 5.

This week we have enjoyed sorting plants according to different features. We have also measured the plants we are growing in base.

Woodwind assembly

Today we had a special visitor in assembly. He showed us a range of different woodwind instruments, which one day we might like to play ourselves!
