Headteacher’s Message (09.02.2024)

It has been a very short half term, but as always, the staff and children at Apley have achieved so much.  Just this week, I’ve seen detailed and descriptive writing across the whole school, very impressive reading in phonics lessons in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and some fantastic art from Year 3.

Well done to our Year 5 children who demonstrated brilliant behaviour on their recent visit to Charlton School to see the performance of The Wizard of Oz.  I have received some lovely feedback from the staff team.  A huge well done again to our Safeguarding Squad, who delivered the annual whole school assembly for Safer Internet Week.  They did a brilliant job and every year group has taken part in lessons this week about the importance of online safety.

Congratulations to everyone who has received a Headteacher Award this week:

Carter W, Lois A, Emilia E, Emma B, Charlotte C, Evie-Rose M, Jack T, Sabrina S, Kunashe M, Nikolaos D, Amira A, Summer J, Eddie D-S, Harley W, Kenai Q, Ariya R, Emmy C, Jacob B, Qais S, Olivia I-C, Lyla S, Ollie D, Ali S, Isabelle K, Willow C, Carter S, Isabella S, Oscar N, Sophia C, Charlie T.

Base 13 – Safer Internet Day 06.02.24

This week, in Base 13, we looked at different features used online and how they impact us as internet users. This was related to Safer Internet Day, where the focus this year was ‘Changes Online’.

Well done Base 13 for some great teamwork and discussions!

Year 3- Online Safety 7.2.24

As part of online safety week, Year 3 looked at how much technology had changed in the last 20 years, before having a go at designing their own tech of the future. We had a focus on how to keep technology safe for future users.

WB 05.02.24 – Year 1 Science Investigation

This week in our Science lesson we took part in an investigation to find the best waterproof material to make a coat for a teddy bear.

We investigated by measuring out some water and adding it to lots of different materials (based on our predications last week). We discovered that plastic would be the best material for a waterproof coat, and that if we had a coat made from paper or wool, we would get very wet!

Art morning- 5.2.2024

Year 3 have thoroughly enjoyed their art morning. Their special visitor demonstrated how to create texture in landscape paintings and their final pieces look fantastic!

Test Pilots – 5/2/24

As part of our history topic Y2 have been looking at how the design of planes has changed since the first flights by the Wright Brothers. As part of this, we have made and tested paper planes and looked at the features of modern aircraft including the pointed nose cone and the sharp edged wings. We found that after adding these features to our planes they flew much further.

Owl Ice Cream!

As part of our work on the Gruffalo, the children have had a go at making and tasting owl ice cream!
We followed a recipe and weighed out the ingredients. The children used their strong muscles to whisk the mixture until it turned from a liquid, into a solid.
We then froze the ice cream and enjoyed it as a treat on Friday. Everyone agreed it was absolutely delicious!

Reminder – Outstanding Balances

Please can we ask you to check your child’s Scopay account and clear any outstanding money owed for dinners, Breakfast Club and Afterschool Club.

Please contact the school office either by phone or by sending an email to A2190@taw.org.uk if you have any queries regarding this.

Many thanks for your assistance.
