Headteacher’s Message (26.04.2024)
Another great week in school. We started with a brilliant assembly from our safeguarding squad, with a focus on well being, being happy and how to get support when you need it. Have a look at the link below to find out more.
Outstandingly Happy
We were very excited to celebrate Earth Day this week. Every year group completed different activities learning about sustainability. Fouad and Alexander from Year 3, were so inspired by Earth Day, they also went above and beyond by choosing to do some litter picking at break times to look after our school environment and the wildlife that live in our grounds. Thank you to Miss Dovydaitis for organising our Earth Day activities.
A huge well done to our Aquasplash team from Y3/4 who came first in their competition! What a fantastic effort!
Some of our policies have been amended this week to reflect those of Reach2. The Attendance policy, Complaints policy and Child Protection Policy have been reviewed and are available on our website.

Earth Day. 22.04.24
For Earth day year one looked at recycling and reusing plastics. We chose containers to use as planters, filled them with soil and planted plants in them.
Earth Day- 22.4.24
Yesterday, Apley Wood celebrated Earth Day, with a focus on how plastic is destroying our planet. Each year group carried out a piece of field work, thinking about how we can become more sustainable as a school.
It was fantastic to hear the ideas that the children had about how we can reduce plastic waste within school, as well as improving their geographical skills by designing and completing questionnaires, collecting data and drawing sketch maps.
Well done to everyone for getting involved!
Earth Day in Base 4 – 22/04/2024
To celebrate Earth Day, Year 2 read Rocket Says Clean Up! by Nathan Bryon and then became Apley Wood’s “Clean Up Crew”. We went litter picking around our school grounds and this is what we found:
Base 4 did a brilliant job of cleaning up our playground and have agreed that we could all do a bit more to look after our planet. Well done, Base 4!
Earth Day 2024
On Monday, Year 4 celebrated Earth Day! Our focus this year was on ‘Planet vs Plastic’. We explored the positives, and negatives, of plastic use and had fantastic discussions linked to our Science topic on how plastic can impact living things. We created a poster on how we can be more sustainable in school and discussed ways, as individuals, we can help the environment.
We discussed the importance of recycling and how plastic can be reused. We then created plant pots out of plastic bottles to reuse plastic for a purpose that creates life. Our cress has already began to grow in class!
Base 4’s Forest School Session – 25/04/2024
Base 4 had a lovely morning at Forest School as part of their Plants topic in Science. They identified different tree species, took bark rubbings and collected different leaves to do leaf rubbings when they got back to class.
Aquasplash Champions!!!!
Our YR3/4 Mixed swimming team did incredibly well participating in the TWSSP Aquasplash at Wrekin college, they all worked together and collected as many points as they could. They finished 1st place over all.

Monster Madness at Afterschool Hub
The Afterschool Hub recently entered a young artist competition called ‘Monster Madness’. The children had to draw an imaginary monster and name it. Mrs Hall is very proud to announce that all of the children who entered were chosen to have their drawing included in a special edition of the Monster Madness Young Artist book which will be published shortly and on sale in book shops in the UK. The hub will receive a copy of the book which all of our children will be able to have a look at.
Congratulations to all of the children who took part, this is a great achievement and fantastic news for our school.
