Headteacher’s Message

We have said goodbye to Mr Spragg this week, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank him for his hard work and commitment to school and the children in Base 14 over the last two terms.  Mrs Richards, will return from maternity leave to teach Base 14 alongside Mrs Williams after half term.

Well done to the girl’s cricket team this week who won the final.  A fantastic effort and a well deserved win.

We are always willing and happy to address any queries or concerns that you may have.  At the start of the school day, the teachers/members of SLT and Mrs Robinson are available for passing messages when the children arrive at school, however, as they need to be supervising children once they are in class, if you need a longer time to discuss something, please do so at the end of the school day or contact the office to book an appointment. Wednesday is our staff meeting day so teachers will not be able to book meetings for this day of the week.

Messages, concerns and queries can also be shared via the school admin email or phone call and these will be passed on to the appropriate member of staff.  Please see details from our complaints policy below about who to address any concerns to:

Complaint regarding another child. Please speak to the class teacher in the first instance.  This can also be dealt with by the Rec/KS1 phase leader – Mrs Garraway or KS2 phase leader – Miss Whitehouse.
Complaint regarding a school policy or procedure. Please contact the Assistant/Deputy Headteacher who may liaise with the Headteacher.
Complaint regarding a member of staff. Please speak to the Headteacher who may delegate this to another member of SLT.

The sooner we are aware of any concerns you may have, then the quicker these can be addressed for you and the children.

Congratulations to everyone who received a Headteacher Award this week:

Emails and Text Messages from school

Emails – Please can you check you junk email folder for any correspondence from us as we have recently changed our communication system.

Text messages – Currently when we send through text messages they will come from a randomly generated number (not the school’s number), this will remain the same for all text messages from us.  We will always sign off the message with Apley Wood Team to confirm it is from us.

Attendance (24.05.24)

Overall School attendance is 94.2%

Key Stage 1

Base 6 has the best attendance 98.4%

Key Stage 2

Base 15 has the best attendance 97.2%

Well done to Base 6 and Base 15, they have earned extra golden minutes this week.

The School Day 24/05/24

The school day is 8.45am – 3.15pm.

Teachers open doors at 8.45am and close them at 8.50am.  Any children arriving between  8.50am – 9am, must enter through the double doors on the main playground.

Registers close at 9am and we are seeing an increase in children who are arriving after this time which means they are then marked late.

Classroom activities do start straightaway for children so if they miss this registration time then they are missing learning and the important social start to the school day.

Base 13 – Perspective Drawing 23.5.24

Today in Base 13, we have been starting to create our own flip books showing the journey of the Highwayman using perspective.
Keep an eye out for the finished products tomorrow when we start to add colour using oil pastels, layering the colours in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.

Well done Year 6

Year 6 had a lovely, relaxing Friday watching films with popcorn, enjoying the outdoors and playing along to ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley to celebrate the end of SATs week.

We are so proud of the tremendous effort and determination they showed towards all of their SATs papers and the positivity they demonstrated throughout the week. Well done Year 6 – you should be so proud of yourselves!
