Headteacher’s message
Welcome back to the Summer term, I hope you all had a lovely Easter break. We have a lot of enrichment activities planned for this term, the dates of which I have shared in a letter earlier this week. They are also available for you to access on the website. You can find out more about what your children will be learning this term by looking at the curriculum pages on the school website. More information will also be posted on the class pages over the coming weeks. If you have any questions about our topics for this term, please speak to the class teachers.
Our school council have given us a super start to the term by planting a new wildflower area, with seeds donated by Sainsburys. They worked so hard doing this and I can’t wait to see the results of their efforts.
I am extremely impressed with our Year 5 children who have been working for a number of weeks on a Formula 1 Design and Technology project. They have had to use a wide range of skills and apply their knowledge from different subject areas to design and create F1 model cars. Good luck to the team who have been selected to represent Apley at the competition on Monday next week.
Well done to everyone who has received a headteacher award this week:

Planting
Planting in Forest school
Exciting parcels arrived from Sainsburys and some of our forest school children were able to get their hands dirty and created some seed bombs using clay and seed kits.
Some children also spread wild seed throughout the wild area that has been disused which will bring colour throughout the forest school. We also had some trees donated for the Jubilee which have now been scattered around the forest school.

Sainsbury’s gardening Donation
School council got to enjoy some lovely spring sunshine on Tuesday afternoon as they planted up a wild flower garden. Sainsbury’s have kindly donated various plants and seeds which Forest school will also soon be planting. School council raked over the ground and used hoes to remove the weeds. (They discovered how much energy they need to do this!) They then distributed the seed across the area and watered it in. A great time was had by all with many exclaiming how much fun it was. Many thanks again to Sainsbury’s for their kind donation.
Art Club
Last half term, Key Stage 2 art club followed an online tutorial by mural artist Rory McCann on how to paint a dragon’s eye. They used Rory’s work as inspiration for their own colour schemes. This netted a rainbow of dragons; from water to forest dragons and everything in between. These budding artists worked hard and created some amazing pieces that have received compliments from all who have seen them so far! It was lovely to see their pieces evolve each week. They will be taking their masterpieces home at the end of this half term as the photocopier didn’t do justice to their work.
I look forward to sharing this term’s work with you, though I may need a bigger board to display their work as there are 2 clubs following Rory’s tutorials: a phoenix eye and a space adventure!
Well done!
Mrs Evans
Local Author Visit
We are very excited to announce that local author, Sarah Griffiths, will be coming for an author visit on Friday 19th May.
Sarah will be sharing her book, ‘The Lost Voices’ and talking to the children about how they can look after our planet and all of its people like the main character. She will also be talking to the children about life as an author and how to get from an idea to a published book.
We can’t wait to find out more!
