Headteacher’s Message

Happy New Year to you all, I hope you all had a restful holiday. We have had a super first week back. In assembly on Monday we revisited our school rules, discussed what makes our school family so special and I shared the REAch2 11 before 11 offer with the children to show them some of the additional activities they will be able to take part in once we have joined the trust.

On Monday next week, we will be launching the parent/carer consultation about the academisation and inviting you to attend a meeting later in January, to find out more and meet some of the REAch2 executive team.

A huge well done and thank you to the children who attended the Young Voices concert this week.  It was an incredible experience again and an absolute pleasure to see the joy on their faces and their enthusiastic singing and dancing. As always, their behaviour was impeccable and they represented Apley brilliantly.

Well done to everyone who has started the year by receiving a Headteacher award:

Amber-Rose D, Leo B, Alice W, Akintola A, Joe D, Zyra-Rose D, Carter W, Isabella N, Tanatswa M, Joules L, Louie P, Ramiz F, Abigail L, Logan B,  Amelia A, Zack J, Ashleigh P, Haris R, Tianne G, Riley W, Annabell C, Jaiden M, Ethen H, Tali-Sian D, Spencer R, Sophia C, Millie F, Qais S.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Health Protection Hub Measles update January 2023

Cases of measles are increasing in the UK, including in the West Midlands, and it’s likely that there will be cases in Telford in the near future.

Measles is a viral illness that can be serious and sometimes fatal. Spending 15 minutes with someone with measles is enough to get the virus. Symptoms of measles include high fever, runny nose, cough, red and watery eyes, small red spots with a bluish-white centre inside the mouth. A rash can appear later, usually on the face, upper neck, hands and feet, fading after 5 to 6 days. If you’ve not been vaccinated against measles you can be at risk, but it’s most common in young children. Someone with measles can spread the virus up to 4 days before a rash appears, and up to 4 days after.

Measles can have serious and sometimes fatal consequences, so make sure you and your children are up to date with MMR vaccinations, and ask your GP about catch-up jabs if needed. The MMR vaccine is highly effective at protecting against measles.

If you are unsure if your child is up to date with all their routine vaccinations you can check their Red Book (personal child health record) in the first instance. If you are still not sure, or if you need to bring your child up to date with their vaccines, you should contact their GP practice to check and book an appointment.

If you are concerned that your child has measles, please call your GP in the first instance, to reduce the risk of passing the disease to others in the waiting room.  More information on measles can be found here and information on the MMR vaccine can be found here .

Year 2 Love to Read

Mrs Beardwood’s Love to Read group received a surprise in the post today. They were joined by a new member called ‘Stanley Lambchop’ who arrived folded into an envelope. Stanley, or Flat Stanley as he is usually called, is their focus book for this half term and the group have had fun today predicting some of the adventures he will have. We can’t wait to start reading later in the week.

09.01.24 – Year 5 are lost in the Amazon!

As part of our new Love to Read lessons, Year 5 had experienced an ‘aeroplane crash’ and were deserted in the Amazon Rainforest! They had to build a den that would shield them and protect them from the wilderness that is the Amazon Rainforest!

With only the blurb information to go from, Year 5 were also asked to generate a front cover for the text ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell. We think you will agree that they are quite the art masterpieces!
