Weekly Challenge

Last week in Year 6!

This would be your last week as a Year 6 Apley Wood pupil! Even though it may not have been as we would have expected, we have loved spending your final year at Apley Wood teaching you all and watching you grow!

For this week’s challenge, we would love for you to create something to mark what would have been your last week in Year 6 and celebrate leaving/remember your time at Apley Wood. This could be a piece of art work, a letter, a comic strip, a video, a poem – be as creative as you want.

We really look forward to seeing what you create as your final Year 6 piece! Email them to:

Weekly Challenge

Fairtrade presentation

This week, the children who are in school are completing a project on Fairtrade. Throughout the week they will be completing a variety different tasks, such as a presentation and pieces of art, to further extend their understanding of Fairtrade. It would be great if those of you working from home could take part too! Here is a copy of the lesson powerpoint (and a map they will be using in school), which explains each tasks and gives some ‘Top-Tips’.

As extra inspiration, here’s an excellent, very informative poster which Alyssa has made at home which shows how you can use an attractive layout to communicate your ideas.

Email across your powerpoint and/or photos of the incredible work which you produce for us to admire and share with the children in school!.

Year 6 Independent Maths and English Workbook 1

(Continue completing this booklet shared last week) The second part of this document are different English tasks for you to complete, however you could still complete the maths section too (as there are also some great revision questions in there). Over the next couple of weeks, work your way through the different questions and tasks.

Writing

Write a character description for the two creatures in the photo. Look carefully, at their appearance and reflect on what impression you would like to give the reader about their character. Consider how you can use metaphors and similes to paint a picture in the readers minds, and whether their characters contrast or compliment one-another. Are they friends or foes?

Weekly Challenge

Crafty Collage

For this week’s challenge, we would like you to create a collage of a local area using objects found from the place itself. It could be your garden, a local park, Apley Woods- anywhere that you can visit easily and safely.

Here are some photos which you could use as inspiration, although I’m sure you can come up with some excellent, creative ideas yourself!

Email us photos of your finished masterpieces- we look forward to seeing your amazing creations.

Writing

I saw her and then she was gone; I heard her whispering for me to follow. It only took me a few seconds for me to decide…

Using the picture and intriguing sentence to create a piece of descriptive writing. Use the sentence to either begin your writing, telling of the events of what happened next, or use it at the end of your writing to leave the reader in suspense. Where are you? Why are you there? What thoughts are you thinking, feeling, seeing?

Weekly Challenge

J.K.Rowling is releasing a new children’s book called ‘The Ickabog’ which is being released online in instalments, over several weeks, a chapter at a time.

So far, we’ve given you challenges linking to the first 6 chapters and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them so far! For this week’s challenge, we would like you to read up to Chapter 10 of ‘The Ickabog’ and then write a book recommendation summarising the story so far.

Here’s the link to the story: https://www.theickabog.com/read-the-story/ . Chapter 10 is called ‘King Fred’s Quest’. Think about how you will organise and communicate your ideas. You could summarise each chapter, list the key events, include your favourite quotes and even use some of the illustration ideas from previous challenges.

Email us your summaries/recommendations when you’ve completed them and enjoy reading this exciting new story. We look forward to seeing them!
