Year 5 Team

Week 12 Weekly Timetable

Here is the weekly timetable for the week beginning 18th July.

Week 12

South Asian Workshop

Today, Year 5 participated in a South Asian Workshop. We learned about different cultures, took part in some dancing and engaged in some insightful discussions.

DT project – Initial stages

It is fantastic to see how enthusiastic Year 5 are about making their balloon-powered vehicles. Today is about starting their making process and building the main body of the vehicle. Our children are very excited about finalising their designs tomorrow and racing their vehicles. What a fantastic project!

Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme is Gadgeteers, created in partnership with Science Museum Group and illustrated by top children’s writer and illustrator Julian Beresford. The children are asked to read 6 books throughout the summer and along the way, they can collect stickers and once they have read six books will receive a medal and certificate.

Children can read any books in any format, fiction, non-fiction, picture books, audio books, eBooks and eAudio books via our Libby App.

Visit your local library or follow the link to find out more and to look up book ideas. https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/join-in

Any child who takes part, can bring their medal into school on our return in September and will receive 15 HP! Let’s all get reading!

PE kit – Wednesday 13th July

On Wednesday 13th July, please send children into school in PE kit as they will taking part in a ‘South Asian Heritage Month’ workshop where they will completing dance and yoga activities.

The ‘Paper-bag challenge’

Through role-play, Year 5 attempted to see what it felt like to be a child in a poorer area of India making paper bags for money. Afterwards, they spoke eloquently about the task highlighting how unfair the world is for children relying upon this to earn money for their families.
