Weekly MyMaths and Times Table Rock Stars

A reminder that there are two activities set each week on MyMaths, one on a Monday and one on a Wednesday for Year 5. The lesson feature is really useful to support the children before completing the homework to revise the topic and teach key concepts. Click on “Try the lesson” before “Start homework” as shown in the picture below.

Also, new timestables are set each week on TTRS for Year 5 children to complete.

Weekly Challenge – Rockin’ and Rollin’

We hope you have all had a lovely Easter break and you are all ready for your new weekly challenge! This week, we would like you to design or build your very own rollercoaster.

You could draw your design on paper or the computer, label it and colour it. Does your rollercoaster have a theme? What are the features?

For an extra challenge you could build your rollercoaster using card, straws, newspaper or anything you have in the house. Does it work? Can you test it using a marble or ball? Can you time it and make your course quicker?

Please email your photos into school with “Year 5 weekly challenge” and we will post your photos onto the website on Friday.

Radio 2’S 500 Word Competition

I’d like to say a huge congratulations to Will, whose story ‘Pure Gold’, has successfully made it through the first round of Radio 2’s 500 word competition. Out of 135,000 entries, he is one of 5,000 children that made it through to the next stage. This is absolutely amazing news and we wish you all the luck for the rest of the competition!

Year 5 Home Update

We have received the first of, we hope, many baking pictures from Bethan. She has been very busy baking Parma Violet monster cakes. Have a look at the delectable-looking picture below! Not only that, but she’s also been recording bedtime stories for her younger cousins.

Well done Bethan – keep it up!
