Reception Phonics Resources to Support Home Learning

Below are links to an online activity with words which children should be able to read by sounding out, or by using ‘fred in their head.’ Please try and practise daily to help them maintain their phonic skills whilst we are closed. Each phonics group has a different set to practise. Your child will know which adult is their teacher for phonics. Click the link below to go to the words – you may have to register to access but it is free.

Supertato

This week, we are reading Supertato. In Maths, Evil Pea created a doubling machine and he was secretly doubling all the peas in the world! The children enjoyed learning how to double numbers and we were impressed with how hard they worked. They have accessed different super hero challenges and resources within their learning time. Check out these Super Heroes below!

Book Fair

The children enjoyed visiting the book fair in the hall. They were encouraged to choose a book of interest to look at and then share if they thought it would be a good book to purchase, giving reasons for their answers.

This week, we have continued to learn about plants and we described a sunflower in Literacy. In Maths, we learnt to subtract by counting back.

Check out some pictures from this week, including some super independent work completed during independent learning time.

Let’s Get Growing

This term our new topic is called Let’s Get Growing. This week, the children have enjoyed learning about plants and described a rose within Literacy. In Maths, we learnt to hold a number in our head and add on when counting. The children have settled back into their routine after half term and especially enjoyed their tennis training today.

Theatre Visit

Today, we had a visit from The Hobgoblin Theatre Company. The children enjoyed watching the interactive performance of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and then undertook an exciting workshop, led by the actors. We were very proud of all the children’s behaviour, which was praised by the performers. Well done, Reception! We hope you all have a lovely half term and thank you again for all your continued support.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Over the next two weeks, we will be following the theme of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Today, the children enjoyed listening to the story and writing sentences about how the characters behave and feel. We were very impressed with their ability to ‘Hold a Sentence’. Check out some of our super writing below!

Super Writer Bands

Has your child took home a Super Writer Wrist Band? If so, they have demonstrated great independent writing. Please reward them with lots of praise, as independent writing is such an achievement and it will continue to motivate them to apply and develop their writing skills.
