EYFS Library Books

Unfortunately we have not been able to visit the library this afternoon. We have collected in all the library books from children’s bags and will give new books out the first week back after Easter. Please have a good search at home if you have misplaced your book because we are not able to give new books until old ones have been returned.

Many thanks,

The children negotiated space and depending on the equipment they came to they either practised their jumping, side stepping or catching skills.

Forest School

This week, Base 1 made their own treasure chests out of egg boxes. They then went to search for treasure (particular natural items found around the school grounds). They needed to find something soft, smooth, tickly, fluffy, flaky and sticky.

Ways in which you can support your child are to:
Practise reading different individual sounds your child finds difficult –  sounds your child needs to learn have been given to you at parents evening.
Support your child to blend the sounds to read the word e.g. m-a-t = mat
When your child is confident reading aloud, encourage them to read in their head ‘Fred in their head’.

Please ensure your child’s reading book and reading diary stay in your child’s plastic folder which comes to school every day so your child can read with an adult in school. We aim to listen to your child at least once a week.

Books will only be updated when your child can confidently read the words fluently.

Maths
This week, we are learning to estimate.

Challenges to complete at home:

Can you estimate how many apples are in the bag? How many teabags are in the box etc.

Letters have been sent home today regarding our Superhero theme day next Tuesday 28th.

We have been enjoying reading the book Supertato. We are asking that all children next Tuesday 28th March dress up as a superhero. This can be as simple as adding a cape to their own clothes or a making a simple eye mask.

SNOW DAY ACTIVITES- EYFS

Snow Day!

We believe that snow is a treasured childhood experience and as such we encourage those that can and wish to to spend the day building a snowman, sledging, making snowballs and drinking hot chocolate. For those that stay inside today, here are some activities to keep your child learning and engaged:

Maths: What makes 10?

Click on the link below if you wish to print. If not, you can view the below picture and complete on paper.

t-m-31203-ten-in-a-bed-number-bonds-to-10-worksheet_ver_2

Writing:

Practise writing words and sentences linked to snow:

It is wet.

It is fun.

Challenge:

It is cold.

It is crunchy.

It is snow.

(These sentences get progressively harder. Not all children have learnt the ow sound. Please challenge your child at their own level. We do now expect the children to write words that contain sounds they have not been taught. When writing, the children will write phonetically and may not spell the words correctly e.g. It is crunchee.)

Phonics:

https://ictgames.com/mobilePage/forestPhonics/index.html

Click on the link and practise spelling words. Ask your child to show you their Fred Fingers. All children have been taught the ch, th, sh, ng and nk sounds. If your child recognises more sounds then they may wish to click on those.

Have a wonderful and safe Friday and we shall see you next week.

Thank you for your continued support,

The EYFS Team.

Spring 2 – Week 2 – Weekly Update

PE

For our warm up the children played ‘Traffic lights’ and followed the instructions well.

When Mr Mountford said “Snowing”, the children had to put their windscreen wipers on. When they heard the word “Reversing”, they needed to walk backwards, carefully negotiating the space and using their arms for balance. They needed to change directions when they heard the word “Roundabout”.

We then played a game of ‘Beans’. The children responded well to quick instructions and changed their body movements according to the name of the bean given.

The children were then all given their own ball. They uses their finger tips to roll the ball around both of their legs.

They then used both hands to roll the ball between their legs making the figure of 8. All children concentrated well.

They were then challenged to roll the ball around their body.

The children then sat and bounced the ball gently between their legs taking care to not loose their ball and always be in control.

Next the children stood and bounced their ball on the ground, making sure the ball came back up before catching.

Forest School

This week, Base 2 made snowmen! Very different to the Spring hunt we had planned. The children really enjoyed adding characteristics to their snowmen to make them appear more life-like.
