Lottie’s visit

Sophie the Veterinary Nurse came to visit us again in Reception but this time with her special friend Lottie. Lottie is her pet dog a Springer Spaniel. We found out lots of information about dogs and how to look after them properly. We were also  able to pet Lottie and help search for her Microchip using a special scanner. Sophie showed us how to put a bandage on as well. Some of us had a go. Lottie was so very well behaved.  We had a such a lovely time and hope to see Lottie again!

‘Looking after ducks’ with the friends of Apley Wood

At forest school last week the children were greeted at the pond by ‘The Friends of Apley’ and they spoke to the children about the health of ducks.

We found out that bread is bad for ducks, so by giving alternative foods like frozen peas, meal worms and porridge oats will keep the ducks at Apley happy and more importantly healthy.

3D Shape Models

The homework for the reception children was to construct a 3d model with some of the shapes we have been learning about in maths.

Look! they are fantastic!

Well done for all of your hard work! Here are just a few..

Homework challenge!

Base 2 children have enjoyed sharing their models from a Maths homework task. We have been looking at 3D shapes and they were set a challenge to create a model.

This week in Reception

The children have had a lovely time baking biscuits with Mrs B. The children were given simple instructions to follow and they have made some fantastic biscuits!

They have also been working as ‘Team Ant’ to rescue the evil pea from the jelly, that was really fun!

In the investigation area the children have had the opportunity to observe living plants and discuss their findings with a partner.

Saving the vegetables!

This week in Reception we have been saving the day again for our poor fruit and vegetables! We found a letter next to our snack box which had been tied up by Evil Pea. We had to write letters to him convincing him not to eat our lovely snack! We have also been freeing our locked up vegetables by using our number doubles facts in Maths. We have had to use our team Ant skills as well to carefully collect the Evil Pea from the jelly by using different tools and techniques.

Supertato to the rescue!

In the shared area this week the children have been sorting and counting evil pea’s! Our story theme this week is ‘Supertato’ and the children have really enjoyed writing about the evil pea during literacy.

Times Tables Resources

In light of the Multiplication Tables Check, please see some of the links that I have attached below. They contain fun, interactive games that the children can play to brush up on their times tables.

Planting beans!

The children in reception are learning about plants and what plants need to grow. We have planted our own beans this week and the children can’t wait to watch them grow!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears..

Base 1 & 2 have been reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ this week and have been busy constructing chairs in the different areas of eyfs. Some children have been drawing parts of the story and making characters in the shared area. Reading the story has definitely created some lovely work. Well done EYFS!
