Accelerated Reader ZPD

If your child is on Accelerated Reader, they should be bringing home their new AR book this weekend. This book will show the ZPD number that the children will be starting at based on the results of their STAR Reading Test which they have completed this week.

Reading Ideas

The children will be keeping their reading book in school all week and bringing their book home on a Friday in order to read to the adults at home. They will  be encouraged to read other books/materials at home throughout the week as well.

The Peters Books website still has a suggested list of reading books categorised by year groups and a set of downloadable activities for children to complete based on different books.

The National Oak Academy is currently updating its pages and will have various reading activities for the children to do.

Have a look at the links below.

Autumn Homework

All homework will now be set on a Friday to be returned (or completed if it’s online e.g. My Maths) by the following Friday.

  • Spellings will be stuck into reading records for the children to practise at home. (They will not have to bring their practice work back into school.)
  • SPAG homework will be a set page from their own designated CGP SPAG homework book.
  • MyMaths will be set and completed online.
  • The children will each have a reading book which will stay in school during the week and go home on a Friday to then be brought back in on the following Monday.

The first homework will be set on Friday 11th September.

My Maths Lessons

Don’t forget to keep reading a wide range of things (fiction/non-fiction books, magazines, annuals, newspapers) and practising your times tables.

You might also want to keep a diary or a photographic journal of all of the things that you get up to.

Have fun and we’ll see everyone in September!

Year 5 Weekly Challenge

This week, we’d like you to get cooking. We’d like you to make a dish or a meal for your family. You could even research some ideas and recipes using recipe books or the ‘Food’ section on the BBC website. You might also like to create a menu and place name cards to have on the table when you serve your food.

Don’t forget to send in pictures of your amazing efforts.

Ready, Steady, Cook!
