Finlay’s lockdown poem – Base 10

Finlay has written a fantastic poem about lockdown. We are very impressed!

Base 10 – why not have a go at writing either a lockdown song or poem and emailing it to us? Please email us the picture/s at: rebecca.richards@taw.org.uk

Home learning – Base 10

Finlay has really enjoyed completing lots of shape and geometry work. He has done a skittles colour experiment, finished Rotten Romans and been on lots of bike rides. Additionally, he has researched Florence Nightingale as it was her birthday this week. He found out a few facts about her, made her lamp and sketched a picture of her. These activities are fantastic! Well done.

A message from the children in school

After seeing our staff video message, some of the children in school wanted to write messages to their teachers, classes and family members. We really enjoyed putting this video together. There were a lot of laughs and retakes involved! Enjoy!

Lockdown song challenge

Lockdown has been something totally new for all of us. It has never happened before in our lifetimes. You must have been experiencing an extremely different way of life so I thought it would be a good opportunity to write a song.

Challenge
1) Write lyrics to a song all about lockdown. Think about what has been happening in the country (e.g. shops, schools, family time…).

2) Come up with a rhythm for your song. Maybe include rhyme to help you? You could always write a rap.

3) If you’re at home, perform your song to your family. If you’re at school, perform your song to the other children in school.

Please send a photograph of your lyrics to me at rebecca.richards@taw.org.uk along with your name and your base. I can then add it to your year group’s page.

I am excited to see your lyrics!

Mrs Richards

Base 10 – Home update

Last week, leading up to VE Day, Noah spent a lot of time reading about WW2. He learned about the Blitz in London and discussed how the people would have felt. Spending time reading and discussing ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ and a range of real news articles from VE Day, the whole topic really captured Noah’s imagination. On VE day itself, he made bunting for the garden, enjoyed Afternoon Tea in the front garden and listened to 1940s music with the rest of his street.
Noah has done amazingly well, with his times tables, and has achieved full marks for the 3 and 9 times tables. Well done!

Home update – Base 10

Harvey was very busy last week. He was learning how to use power tools, safely, to help fit decking and fix the mud kitchen. He also went looking for fossils and dug up some very interesting rocks. Practising one of his new passions, Harvey has also done three cooking videos. He has made curry, pizza and banana bread. He is becoming a brilliant, little chef in the kitchen.

Well done!

VE Day music and drama

On VE Day, the children learnt Makaton for the song “We’ll meet again”, quoted Winston Churchill and released planes to symbolise the end of the war. We were extremely impressed with how much the children cared about making this day special. Well done!

VE Day celebrations

The children had a fantastic time celebrating VE Day today. They had a really fun-filled day creating bravery medals for people of their choice, decorating tea-cups and launching planes to celebrate the end of the war. They all worked really hard and had smiles on their faces the whole time! Happy VE Day everybody!

Thomas has been learning all about WW2 and VE Day on BBC Bitesize today. Thomas was that interested in this part of history that he spent two hours on it. That’s amazing – well done!
