Apley Wood’s Field of Poppies for Remembrance 10/11/23

This week, every child in school created their own poppy for Remembrance. This morning, the whole school gathered in the hall with their poppies to create a field of poppies and to pay their respects with a 2 minute silence. Everyone was very respectful and their poppies looked beautiful when displayed together.

Base 4 DEAR Time with Parents – 08.11.23

Base 4 really enjoyed having their parents in school to read with them this afternoon. Thank you to all of the parents who came, we had a great turnout and look forward to seeing you again next term.

Remembrance Assembly – 08.11.23

Two members of West Mercia Constabulary visited Apley Wood today to deliver a whole school assembly about Remembrance. The children were interested to hear about how the Tommy figures were made at The British Ironwork Centre and the significance behind them. We are all looking forward to creating our own poppy field in school to pay our respects.

Diversity Week in Year 2 – 06.10.23

This week, Base 3 and 4 have been learning all about diversity and celebrating our differences. We have enjoyed listening to music from other countries and completing our “doodle a day” to show what images the music creates in our minds. The children enjoyed telling us about the different religions they follow, the different countries their families are from and the different qualities they have that make them unique. We have also discussed the qualities that make a good friend and given each other complements to show that it feels nice to be kind and it also feels nice when someone is kind to us.

We look forward to seeing this kindness continue,

Miss Craig and Mrs Beardwood

Year 2 Forest School – 28.09.23

Year 2 had a brilliant morning at Forest School, learning all about what animals and humans need to survive. They created a shelter, foraged for edible plants, transported water using natural materials and discussed why fresh air and exercise were important for survival. A big thank you to Mr Yardley and Mrs Jones for an informative and very enjoyable science lesson!

Year 2 Trip to Hoo Zoo – 22/09/2023

Year 2 had a brilliant day at Hoo Zoo, learning all about animal diets and habitats. They enjoyed getting close to the animals and did a great job of representing our school when out in public.

Thank you to all the staff and parent helpers for their support with making the trip a success.

Year 2 Trip to Hoo Zoo

Hi all,

We have had a few queries about what the children should wear tomorrow. Children will need to wear comfortable trousers and footwear (wellington boots if possible) and their school jumper or cardigan. A waterproof/warm coat would be advisable too.

Please also send packed lunches in carrier bags so they can be disposed of after lunch.

We are really looking forward to the trip, keep your eyes on the website for photos of our adventure!

Thank you for your support with this,

Miss Craig

Year 2 PE Days

Indoor PE is on a Tuesday afternoon.

Outdoor PE is on a Friday afternoon.

Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Also, if your child has pierced ears, please remember to remove their earrings before school or cover them with plasters/surgical tape to prevent injury.

Thank you for your support with this,

Miss Craig and Mrs Beardwood
