Headteacher’s Message

Happy New Year to you all, I hope you all had a restful holiday. We have had a super first week back. In assembly on Monday we revisited our school rules, discussed what makes our school family so special and I shared the REAch2 11 before 11 offer with the children to show them some of the additional activities they will be able to take part in once we have joined the trust.

On Monday next week, we will be launching the parent/carer consultation about the academisation and inviting you to attend a meeting later in January, to find out more and meet some of the REAch2 executive team.

A huge well done and thank you to the children who attended the Young Voices concert this week.  It was an incredible experience again and an absolute pleasure to see the joy on their faces and their enthusiastic singing and dancing. As always, their behaviour was impeccable and they represented Apley brilliantly.

Well done to everyone who has started the year by receiving a Headteacher award:

Health Protection Hub Measles update January 2023

Cases of measles are increasing in the UK, including in the West Midlands, and it’s likely that there will be cases in Telford in the near future.

Measles is a viral illness that can be serious and sometimes fatal. Spending 15 minutes with someone with measles is enough to get the virus. Symptoms of measles include high fever, runny nose, cough, red and watery eyes, small red spots with a bluish-white centre inside the mouth. A rash can appear later, usually on the face, upper neck, hands and feet, fading after 5 to 6 days. If you’ve not been vaccinated against measles you can be at risk, but it’s most common in young children. Someone with measles can spread the virus up to 4 days before a rash appears, and up to 4 days after.

Measles can have serious and sometimes fatal consequences, so make sure you and your children are up to date with MMR vaccinations, and ask your GP about catch-up jabs if needed. The MMR vaccine is highly effective at protecting against measles.

If you are unsure if your child is up to date with all their routine vaccinations you can check their Red Book (personal child health record) in the first instance. If you are still not sure, or if you need to bring your child up to date with their vaccines, you should contact their GP practice to check and book an appointment.

If you are concerned that your child has measles, please call your GP in the first instance, to reduce the risk of passing the disease to others in the waiting room.  More information on measles can be found here and information on the MMR vaccine can be found here .

Headteacher’s message – 15/12/2023

What a great week, ending with the amazing performances from our KS1 classes. The year one and two children were incredible with their singing, dancing and acting in The Big, Little Nativity.  Now I feel I am ready for Christmas!

As we near the end of term, I’d like to remind families that the children break up for the holiday on Thursday 21st December, as the staff have a training day on Friday.  We do have some staff to say goodbye to next week.  Mrs Parrish, Mr Clarkson, Mrs Evans and Mrs Worgan are all leaving us for new adventures. I’d like to thank them all for their hard work and commitment to our children and wish them all the best in their new adventures.

Cancellations must also be notified in advance, any bookings not cancelled the day before, will still be charged.

The system will allow you to book or cancel a session up until midnight of the day before.

Thank you for your support with this.

Headteacher’s Message – 08/12/2023

Thank you to everyone who supported Christmas Jumper day yesterday.  School looked very festive and we raised £220.80, which is brilliant.  A huge well done to our reception children and families who enjoyed a christmas sing along this week , it was great to see so many families in school again.

West Mercia Police Competition Winners

We are delighted to share that we have three winners in the Operation Sceptre Art Competition, launched by West Mercia Police earlier in the term.  Children from across Telford and Wrekin entered, designing posters to promote the themes of Anti Knife crime or The police and safety.

A huge congratulations to our winners! Thank you to PC Rob Hughes, Community Safety Engagement Officer, who joined our celebration assembly last week to share the news and present the prizes.

Headteacher’s Message – 1st December 2023

It’s certainly starting to feel like Christmas in school, I’ve heard some lovely singing from Year 1 and Year 2 whilst rehearsing for their show.  Thank you to the children in Apley hub who have decorated our Christmas tree this week, it’s looks beautiful.

There is some really great learning going on in school as always.  I’ve also seen some brilliant maths learning from Year 6, absolutely amazing dances from Base 12 and Base 14 and I received some lovely feedback about the outstanding behaviour of our Year 3 children on their visit to Barmouth this week.

We have done a whole school pupil voice activity this week, taking suggestions from the children about ideas for games and activities for our different zones at lunchtimes.  The staff are reviewing their ideas and will take on some of their suggestions over the coming weeks. The school council are also focusing on lunchtimes and working on ideas to help to improve the dining hall and make it Bonnie safe.

Well done to everyone who has achieved a Headteacher’s Award this week.  I am very proud of you all:
