Summer 2 – Week 4 – EYFS Weekly Update

PE
This week Base 1 enjoyed undertaking lots of different races using the track outside.

Forest School
Base 2 went on a summer walk and completed a summer checklist. The children developed their seasonal vocabulary and enjoyed speaking about the changes they could see at this time of year, comparing it to other nature walks we have taken.

Ways in which you can support your child are to:
Practise reading different individual sounds your child finds difficult.
Support your child to blend the sounds to read the word e.g. m-a-t = mat
When your child is confident reading aloud, encourage them to read in their head ‘Fred in their head’, develop fluency and read at speed.

Please ensure your child’s reading book and reading diary stay in your child’s plastic folder which comes to school every day so your child can read with an adult in school.

Books will only be updated when your child can confidently read the words fluently.

Maths
This week, we have enjoyed completing STEAM activities linked the to the theme ‘Connections’.

In the below activity, the children made a list of all the people they see and meet in their day to day life. On long strips of paper, the children drew a map of their journey to school, drawing key landmarks they see on their way. They then marked different people they see each day and discussed how they interact with each other. We then spoke about how they connect to each other.

Key questions you may wish to ask at home:

Who do you see during your day?

How are you connected to these people?

How do you communicate?

Who do they communicate with?

What technology helps us to communicate?

Theme
This half term, our topic is based around ‘Journeys’ and this week we read ‘Handa’s Surprise’. The children will enjoy lots of activities linked to this story next week. .

Base 3 STEAM Week – Bridge Building – 28.06.23

Today, Base 3 have explored a range of bridges today. They looked at how they were made, the ways in which they are strengthened and what they are used for.

After, they designed their own bridge and then went on to make their own bridge with gem sweets and cocktail sticks. Just look at the amazing bridges they made. They were extremely impressive!

Super team ant skills!

STEAM Week – Mott Macdonald Bentley Visit Year 4

This morning, we were extremely lucky to have a visit from Emma and Gemma, STEM ambassadors from MMB, who explained their job roles, explained the water cycle and completed a water filtration experiment with the children. The children listened carefully, were really inquisitive and asked meaningful questions.
